What “100KB or Less” Means
The 100KB setting is an upper limit, not a promise that the output will contain exactly 100 kilobytes. CompressTo calculates one kilobyte as 1,024 bytes and asks the compression engine for the best result it can produce without exceeding the selected target. An output might therefore be 98KB, 91KB, or another size below 100KB. Image encoders work with discrete quality settings, so every exact byte value is not always available.
Balancing Image Quality and File Size
Compression changes image data to reduce the number of bytes required. The visible effect depends on the original resolution, subject detail, output format, and whether dimensions are preserved. Very detailed or high-resolution photographs may lose fine texture, show compression artifacts, or need smaller pixel dimensions to fit below 100KB. Simpler graphics and smaller photos often require less adjustment.
Use the before-and-after preview, final dimensions, file size, and quality indicator together. If a result looks too soft, try a larger target. If the destination has a stricter limit, the dedicated 50KB image compressor provides the same controls with 50KB selected from the start.
