About CompressTo
CompressTo is a free, browser-based image compression tool. It is designed for practical situations where an image must fit a particular file-size limit, such as an online form, website, email, or document submission.
Exact-size targeting
Instead of asking you to choose only a general quality level, CompressTo lets you enter a target size in kilobytes. The tool searches for a suitable result at or below that target while showing the final file size, reduction, dimensions, and an estimated quality rating. Results can vary according to the source image, format, dimensions, and selected target.
Privacy-first local processing
Image compression takes place locally in your browser. Your image file, image contents, and filename are not uploaded to a CompressTo server. The original image remains available in the current browser session so you can try another target without uploading it again.
Optional analytics remains off unless you consent to it. Analytics does not include image files, image contents, or filenames.
Designed for ease of use
CompressTo does not require an account or software installation. You select an image, choose a target, review the result, and download it. If the result is not suitable, you can recompress the original image with a different target while the current session remains open. For a common form-ready limit, you can use the dedicated image compressor for 50KB or less.

Our editorial team and test evidence
The CompressTo Editorial Team is the collective byline for this product’s guides, maintained by Wstech. It is not the name of an individual author. These guides explain the tool’s behavior and help readers choose a file size or format; they do not certify acceptance by an application portal.
Our published experiments document their source images, encoding settings, byte counts and limitations. The format and dimensions experiments use synthetic subjects. The four-target comparison also includes a genuine workstation photograph. Each experiment identifies its own environment; results from a separate encoder should not be treated as a promise about every browser.
Measured bytes and dimensions are different from visual judgments about clarity. We label examples, preserve the original test files and link the available measurements from the articles. Checksums identify those files; they do not prove visual quality. A small sample cannot predict every image.
Corrections and feedback
If a measurement, explanation or instruction appears wrong, email contact@compressto.tools with the article URL and the issue. For a tool problem, include your browser, format and target size rather than a confidential image. Substantive corrections should identify what changed and when; original experiment dates remain attached to their results.
